Horizon Group Will Bring Two "Green-Concept" Boats to the Fort Lauderdale Boat Show
2009/8/29

Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Aug. 31, 2009 -As one of the leading yacht builders in the world, Horizon Group have been focusing on new product development and innovative technology. The "Green concept" is one important element among the innovative developments from the Horizon Group. At the upcoming Fort Lauderdale Boat Show, Horizon Group will be introducing a "Green Concept" boat to bring to the forefront some of the new solar technology available in today's market. SunCat 23 is the first totally solar powered Horizon yacht, a truly environmentally friendly boat. Powered by a 2.8kW electric outboard motor, the solar-electric 23-foot catamaran is capable of running at 6 knots with 12 people aboard. The storage batteries onboard are sufficient to last for a day trip even without a charge from the sun. Hardtop-mounted solar panels made by leading manufacturers including Gloria Solar provide a total output of 760W to continuously charge the batteries during daylight. In addition to the technology of combining solar power with an electric motor, this green boat has a catermaran hull design that optimizes its ability to cruise with very limited power. Combining green power with the highly efficient hull design creates a truly green boat. Horizon will also be displaying the first 74 Vision CMY to arrive on the East Coast. Along with a design incorporating an abundance of natural light and features aimed at cutting operating power requirements the 74 also incorporates four solar panels. Each of these provide 180W of power, mounted on top of skylounge roof and supply solar power to a selection of the LED lighting, all rope lights and the logo name plates. In addition, the unique design of the salon skylight provides daylight via a solar box from the boat deck. As a fully-equipped, turn-key yacht, offering a variety of configurations including an open flybridge with hard top or fully enclosed skylounge, the Vision 74 built with 20'-6" beam and cockpit is designed to meet the demands of both active water sports enthusiasts and cruising families. The Horizon Group strongly believes in environmental protection and innovation. By developing this emission-free solar boat and adding the green concept and equipment to the current models, Horizon is expecting to gain more knowledge in utilizing alternative resources to continuously develop more environmentally friendly boats in the future.
